# Billing

Blame operates on a transparent subscription and credit-based model. Subscriptions grant recurring monthly credits, and team members consume from the workspace balance for PR reviews and AI chat compute.

## Pricing

* **1 credit** = 1 completed Pull Request review.
* **AI Chat Compute** = **500,000 free tokens / month** included per workspace. Excess chat compute is billed at **1 credit per 50,000 tokens**.

## Credit Architecture

Blame uses a dual-bucket accounting system with a first-in, first-out (FIFO) deduction rule:

1. **Monthly Plan Credits (`planCreditsBalance`)**: Issued at the beginning of each billing cycle according to your seat count or flat plan allowance. Unused monthly credits expire and reset upon each renewal cycle.
2. **Lifetime Top-Up Credits (`topupCreditsBalance`)**: Purchased manually via top-up packs, added through Auto-Topup, or awarded through referrals. **Lifetime credits never expire.**
3. **Consumption Order**: Blame always uses your expiring monthly plan quota first. Once your monthly plan credits reach zero, reviews and AI queries automatically draw from your lifetime top-up balance.

## How Reviews & Tokens are Counted

### Pull Request Reviews

* Billing counts **completed reviews**, not total open PRs. Skipped or ignored PRs do not consume credits.
* Reviews trigger automatically via webhooks on configured events (`pull_request.opened`, `pull_request.synchronize`) or on manual triggers.
* All PR reviews draw from the shared workspace credit pool.

### AI Chat & Token Billing

* Every workspace receives **500,000 AI tokens free each month** for interactive chats, PR debugging, and code queries.
* Once the monthly 500k free token allowance is reached, chat queries automatically deduct **1 credit per 50,000 tokens** consumed.
* Usage, daily token velocity, and model breakdowns are tracked in real-time under **Settings → Billing & Credits → AI Token Usage**.

## Auto-Topup & Spend Limits

To avoid blocking active CI/CD pipelines or failing reviews when credit balances run low, workspaces can configure **Auto-Topup**:

* **Balance Threshold**: Set a minimum credit level (e.g. 10 credits). When your workspace falls to or below this threshold, a refill is automatically triggered.
* **Refill Pack Size**: Select your target dollar refill amount (eg. \$20, \$50, \$100). Credits are added instantly at your tier's discounted overage rate (\$1/credit on Startr, \$0.80/credit on Pro, \$0.60/credit on Max).
* **Monthly Spend Cap**: Set an optional maximum dollar spend cap per calendar month. Auto-topups pause automatically if the cap is reached, preventing runaway costs.
* **In-Flight Buffer**: A safety buffer (-2 credits) allows in-flight webhook reviews to complete smoothly while a payment confirmation is in progress.

## Managing Seats & Invitations

* **Scaling Seats (Starter & Pro)**: You can add seats at any time. Stripe automatically prorates charges for the remainder of your billing period.
* **Seat Downgrade Safeguard**: Seat counts cannot be reduced below the number of active team members plus pending invitations. Remove members or revoke invitations before lowering seats.
* **Max & Enterprise**: Include unlimited team seats with no per-seat management or licensing overhead.

## Invoices & Customer Portal

Workspace owners and admins can manage their subscription details via Stripe's self-service portal:

* **Update Payment Methods**: Manage credit cards, billing contacts, and corporate tax/VAT numbers.
* **Download Invoices**: View historical billing statements, charges, and download official PDF receipts.
* **Cancel or Resume**: Cancel at the end of the current billing cycle or resume an active subscription with one click.

  **Grace Period**: If an automatic renewal payment fails, your workspace is granted an automatic **3-day grace period** to update payment methods before review triggers are paused.
